Lolwe Fiction Programme

The Lolwe Fiction Programme is designed for writers developing short stories, novels and other forms of prose fiction who want a deeper, more sustained engagement with craft.

Across the year, participants will explore the essential elements of fiction — including plot, character, setting, point of view, dialogue, structure, voice and style — through a sequence of craft masterclasses and small-group workshops.

The Programme begins with a general Fiction or Prose Workshop, giving participants a shared foundation in narrative craft. From there, writers move into a more focused workshop pathway — such as Short Story or Novel — shaped by the project they are developing.

How the year works

Craft Masterclasses
Focused study of the core elements that shape compelling fiction. The craft masterclasses will take place across the year alongside the workshops to emphasise and provide more clarity on the content of the workshops.

Foundation Workshop
The participants will begin with a general Fiction or Prose Workshop centred on generating, developing and discussing new work.

Specialist Workshop
The next stage will be to progress into a Short Story or Novel Workshop according to the form and project you are developing.

Develop Your Work
You will use the year to generate, revise and strengthen a substantial body of fiction, such as a short story collection, novella or novel.
