The short story is one of the most popular mediums for storytelling, and its creation is a process with numerous iterations. In this class, the short story will be treated as a piece of design with a particular function—to entertain or educate, for example—and will focus on the following aspects:
- the short story as a piece of design (an alternative way of thinking of short fiction);
- the preliminary design (thinking about and drafting a short story);
- product refinement (writing and editing a short story); and,
- field testing (submitting and publishing short fiction).
This 4-week class, led by Rémy Ngamije, award-winning author of the novel The Eternal Audience of One and the short story collection Only Stars Know the Meaning of Space, will not only improve your writing skills but also elevate your approach to writing short fiction.
